A New Years resolution that works?

Thinking about what to write in your next chapter? Instead of procrastinating, grab a pen and pad and keep it with you at all times (waterproof paper and pencil for the shower, lol).
Any time an idea hits you, jot it down. Any pictures, maps, character ideas and more.
Just keep adding more and more in a bulletin journal style fashion and eventually you will start to put the pieces together for the bigger picture.
Experiences make for great writing.

Have Fun

An ode to writing

Christmas Eve eve

and all through the flat,

not a typewriter clacking

just a man in a hat.

The plot is a brewing

And the characters all done

The research is best

And oh so much fun

Outlining, cracked it

And final draft written

No writers block

And no nails bitten

Paper screwed up

And pens out of ink

Finally created

A plot that don’t stink

But wait there’s a typo

“How did that get there?”

Five hours editing

As I pull out my hair

“That’s it, I’m done”

As I pour out a beer

To celebrate I’ve finished

At this special time of year.

Put down my pad

And lid on my pen

Shutdown the laptop

And exit the den

And join all the family

Eating crackers and cheeses

To celebrate Christmas

And the birth of Lord Jesus

Merry Christmas everyone

Christmas conversations

It’s been a day of fun, and meeting people. A chance to share the festive cheer and catch up. The people we meet are a great opportunity to consider as characters in your book, with amazing ideas, appearances, accents, stories and more. What an amazing world we live in, where we as writers can bring an everyday situation alive into someone else’s head simply by reading what we have written.

If you’re wanting to be a writer, then all you have to do is write and have fun.
Thanks for reading

Roadtrip

Off on a road trip today. Hoping the change of scenery will help me with world building. If not, it’ll be nice to have the rest and put some more energy into outlining tomorrow instead :)

Whatever you’re doing today, Have fun

Light bulb moment

I bought a five year diary.
Why did I do this? Simple. Every single day I write my novel, I finish that day with a 3 line comment in my five year diary. The first line describes what I am doing, outlining, character development, world building etc. The second line is for a new word I have learnt, and the bottom line includes the word count of what I have written.
These three lines are actually starting to help. They help me to have a daily goal, and this goal keeps me writing.
And next year I can look at my process, see what happened and repeat, review, and even change it so that I can write more efficiently.

Why not have a bash yourself, I’m surprised how easy this habit was to create, especially since I keep it on my bedside table, so it becomes the last thing I do before I go to sleep.

Have fun writing

Almost Christmas

It’s been a while since posting here, and I’ve been busy preparing for Christmas.
The presents are wrapped, the family visits are happening, the shopping list almost completed for food for Christmas week.

Some of this time has been spent writing. My characters are coming along well, the plot is being outlined and the maps drawn and even some text written. It’s almost like doing a 1 million piece jigsaw, and the border is almost put together with some random pieces put together in the middle. All that’s left now is to start putting it all together and eventually I will start to see the bigger picture :)

Until the next time, happy writing

Blog content

Hi everyone,
Over the next few days I am going to put together a list of ideas and things to add to the blog. Updates to the books I am writing are an obvious one, as well as some writing tips for new writers.

Until then, happy writing
